Picnic Day Seed Packets
The SCOPE Project is sending seed packets filled with common bean, tomato, pepper, and wheat seed to the Picnic Day @ Home packages. These packages will be filled with free give-away items normally found during in-person Picnic Days.
All Picnic Day @ Home packages will include a packet of our newest release, a colorful collection of common beans developed right here on campus. In addition to beans, each packet will have a random selection of either pepper, tomato, or wheat seed.

Instructions to plant your seeds and care for your plants
Tomatoes:
Plant seeds indoors between months of March-April. Keep seedlings indoors for six weeks. Once threat of frost has passed, transplant outdoors to a garden bed. If keeping indoors, be sure the plant gets 6-8 hours of full sun. Fruit should be ready to harvest between 80-100 days.
Peppers:

Wheat:
Growing wheat seeds for wheat grain or ornamental purposes:
- If seeds are planted during the cool season (plant in Dec-Feb), plants may take approximately 6-7 months to reach maturity.
- If seeds are planted during the warm season (plant in April-June), plants may take approximately 4 months to reach maturity.
- Wheat seeds are ready to harvest when the plants are golden brown and seeds are dry and hard.
If grown outdoors or in-soil, wheat plants can handle full sun and partial shade well; water as needed to maintain soil moisture approximately 1 inch below the soil surface
Planting depth: 1-2 inches
Plant spacing: approx 3 inches apart
Growing wheat seeds for wheatgrass:
(1) Put seeds in a jar and fill until seeds are covered with water
(2) Let seeds soak in the refrigerator overnight
(3) Scatter seeds on a moist paper towel or soil surface and put in a warm, sunny place. Keep seedlings moist by watering or spraying the paper towel with water periodically. Seedlings will be ready to harvest 10-12 days or until wheat seedlings are 3-5 inches tall.
