PBC plant giveaway remains one of the most popular Picnic Day events!

The Plant Breeding Center's Strawberry Plant Giveaway for Picnic Day 2025 was another great success! As mentioned in the Dateline feature, visitors lined up starting before 8:45 AM to get one of the Strawberry Breeding and Research Program's newly released cultivars, UC Eclipse. For those of you who managed to snag one of our sold-out plants, you can learn How to Care for Your Picnic Day Strawberry Plant. And remember, in the Davis climate, make sure those plants get plenty of morning sunlight, but are protected from the harsh afternoon heat. 

The PBC is devoted to public outreach and promoting the research and cultivar releases of campus breeding programs. We love chatting with the new and returning Picnic Day visitors who come from across California to take home their very own piece of UC Davis breeding history.
